As part of the Government of India’s ongoing efforts to promote financial inclusion, Indian Bank organized a Financial Inclusion Saturation Campaign on 9th August 2025 at Thirukandalam village in Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu.

The event was attended by several high-profile dignitaries, including Shri Swaminathan Janakiraman, Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, and Shri M. Prathap, District Collector of Tiruvallur. Also present were Shri Binod Kumar, Managing Director & CEO of Indian Bank, along with the bank’s Executive Directors Shri Ashutosh Choudhury and Shri Shiv Bajrang Singh, as well as senior officials from RBI, the Department of Financial Services (DFS), and other public sector banks.

The campaign focused mainly on two important areas:

Over 2,000 local residents, including farmers, self-help groups (SHGs), students, and other community members, visited the camp. In just one day, more than 350 people completed their Re-KYC.

However, the camp by Indian Bank has also drawn criticism on social media. Many people raised questions over the choice of date i.e. 9th August – Raksha Bandhan, a festival celebrated with great enthusiasm across India. While families were busy observing traditions, tying rakhis, and spending time together, bank employees and participants were engaged in the campaign activities. Critics argue that organizing such an event on a major festival day was insensitive, as it forced staff and locals to choose between attending the camp and celebrating festival with their families.
