An explanation letter issued by Indian Bank Zonal Office is going viral on social media. In the letter, a branch manager has been asked to explain why he did not feed mobile numbers of customers in CBS.

As per letter, the branch provided relaxation to customers who had not mobile numbers feeded in their accounts. The Bank has asked branch to feed mobile numbers in accounts of all customers.

The letter stated: As you are aware, digitization is the future of banking and for it mobile number seeding is imperative. CO had clearly communicated that each staff has to ensure that mobile number is seeded in every account. As per data provided by CO, you have given 28 over-rides to the customers in the month of February from 09.02.2026 to 18.02.2026 where system generated pop-up message “mobile not seeded”. You are hereby asked to explain particular reasons for providing over-rides in the accounts and not abiding by the CO guidelines within 3 days of receipt of this letter.

Users on social media are criticizing bank for issuing explanation letter to branch as there might be some genuine hurdles in feeding Mobile numbers. For example: If a person is illiterate, then mobile number may not be seeded in system.
