The report “Digital Public Infrastructure of India – Accelerating India’s Digital Inclusion” by Nasscom-Arthur D. Little predicts that Digital Public Infrastructures (DPIs) could lead India to a $1 trillion digital economy by 2030, contributing to its overall goal of becoming an $8 trillion economy.

Impact of DPIs:

DPIs are expected to significantly boost citizens’ efficiency and promote social and financial inclusion by 2030, according to the report. Mature DPIs like Aadhaar, UPI, and FASTag have already seen widespread adoption by 2022 and are poised for further scalability, reaching even remote populations.

Role of DPIs in Economic Transformation:

Nasscom-Arthur D. Little credits DPIs for powering India’s economic transformation, facilitating the development of essential government services and platforms. These DPIs have not only driven market innovations but also created an inclusive ecosystem in both public and private sectors.

Economic Value:

The report estimates that mature DPIs have generated a value of $31.8 billion, equivalent to 0.9% of India’s GDP. By 2030, this economic value is projected to increase to approximately 2.9%-4.2% of GDP, considering both direct and indirect impacts.

India’s Global Leadership in DPIs:

India is recognized as the global leader in developing DPIs, particularly in implementing digital payments and data-sharing infrastructures. This leadership position has been made possible by strong government support and the country’s robust IT intellectual capital and startup ecosystem.

Evolution of Digital Entities:

Existing digital entities are expected to evolve to provide better user experiences, leveraging new technologies like AI and Web 3. Aadhaar is anticipated to remain a significant contributor as its applications expand to a broader range of services.

Strengthening the Digital Revolution:

DPIs, often referred to as the India Stack, have laid the foundation for India’s digital revolution, enabling the country to utilize digital technologies on a large scale to transform society. These infrastructures are crucial in shaping India’s technological advancement and driving its growth trajectory.
