On May 7, 2025, India held a press briefing about Operation SINDOOR, describing its actions as carefully planned, limited in scope, and not aimed at escalating the situation. It was clearly stated that India did not target Pakistani military bases and only responded to threats. India also warned that any attack on Indian military sites would lead to an appropriate response.
Pakistan’s Overnight Attacks
Despite this, on the night of May 7-8, 2025, Pakistan launched attacks using drones and missiles aimed at military locations across Northern and Western India. The targeted areas included:
- Jammu and Kashmir: Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu
- Punjab: Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda
- Chandigarh and Rajasthan: Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai
- Gujarat: Bhuj
These incoming threats were successfully intercepted and neutralized by India’s Integrated Counter-UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) Grid and Air Defence systems. The recovered debris from different locations confirms the attempted attacks from Pakistan.
India’s Measured Military Response
On the morning of May 8, 2025, India responded by targeting Pakistani Air Defence Radars and systems. These strikes were focused and limited, matching the level and type of Pakistan’s actions. Reports confirm that an Air Defence system in Lahore was among those hit and has been neutralized.
Ceasefire Violations at the Line of Control
Meanwhile, Pakistan has also intensified shelling across the Line of Control (LoC), using mortars and heavy artillery in the following areas of Jammu and Kashmir:
- Kupwara
- Baramulla
- Uri
- Poonch
- Mendhar
- Rajouri
Tragically, these unprovoked attacks have led to the deaths of 16 civilians, including three women and five children. In response, India was forced to take action to stop the ongoing firing from the Pakistani side.
India’s Stand on Escalation
The Indian Armed Forces have once again emphasized that they are committed to avoiding further escalation, but this depends on Pakistan’s actions. If Pakistan stops its attacks, India is ready to maintain peace.
