Acting on a tip-off, Mumbai Police apprehended Shoeb Sheikh (24) at his residence in suburban Saki Naka during the early hours, thwarting his attempt to escape to his hometown in Uttar Pradesh, according to an official statement.

Upon questioning, Sheikh disclosed that he had checked into a Navi Mumbai hotel with his girlfriend Amy, also known as Amit Ravindra Kaur (35), on Monday. The accused suspected Kaur of having an extramarital affair and, reportedly consumed by anger, he allegedly strangled her to death, the official stated.

The revelation of Sheikh’s involvement in illicit activities prompted the Mumbai Police to investigate, leading them to his Sakinaka residence. During the interrogation, Sheikh confessed to the murder. Subsequently, the Mumbai Police informed their counterparts in the Turbhe area of Navi Mumbai.

A Turbhe police team swiftly reached the hotel where the lifeless body of the woman was discovered in a room, the official explained. The victim, identified as a manager at the Navi Mumbai branch of IDFC Bank, hailed from Sion Koliwada area in Mumbai.

Following the recovery of the body, Sheikh was arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 302 (Punishment for murder), the official added.
