How much salary will increase under 8th Pay Commission?

According to reports, the new salary revision commission for central government employees is likely to be set up after the general elections.In a letter to the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions, the Indian Railways Technical Supervisors’ Association has urged to government to set up the 8th Pay Commission and address all current anomalies while not giving room for “future anomalies”. The Department of Personnel & Training (Do&PT) has forwarded this letter to the Department of Expenditure (finance ministry) for further action.

We hope the 8th pay commission gets finalized at the earliest. In this article, we will have a look at the possible salary increase if 8th pay commission gets implemented.

How much salary will increase under 8th pay commission?

Under the current 7th Pay Commission framework, the minimum basic salary stands at Rs 18,000 for employees. However, this figure is slated for revision under the 8th Pay Commission. The new basic pay will be determined based on the fitment factor applied to the previous salary.

According to the latest reports, the fitment factor under the 8th Pay Commission is projected to increase to 3.68 times. This adjustment could potentially elevate the basic pay of central government employees from Rs 18,000 to Rs 26,000, reflecting an increase of Rs 8,000 in the minimum salary.

In contrast, the 7th Pay Commission had raised the fitment factor to 2.57 times, resulting in a basic salary of Rs 18,000.

5th Pay Commission Fitment Factor

  • Salary increase: 31 per cent
  • Minimum pay scale: Rs 2,550

6th Pay Commission Fitment Factor

  • Fitment Factor: 1.86 times
  • Salary increase: 54 per cent 
  • Minimum Pay Scale: Rs 7,000

7th Pay Commission Fitment Factor

  • Fitment Factor: 2.57 times
  • Salary increase: 14.29 per cent
  • Minimum Pay Scale: Rs 18,000
