Government Organizes Workshop to improve Reservation Policy in Public Sector Banks and Financial Institutions

The Department of Financial Services (DFS) under the Ministry of Finance organized a two-day workshop at SBI Academy in Gurugram. The main purpose of this workshop was to discuss how the Reservation Policy of the Government of India is being implemented in:

  • Public Sector Banks
  • Public Sector Insurance Companies
  • Sectoral Regulators
  • Public Financial Institutions

Focus on Financial Inclusion and Public Grievance Redressal

Apart from focusing on the implementation of reservation policies, the workshop also emphasized on making financial services more accessible to Divyangjans (persons with disabilities) and ensuring that public grievances are addressed on time and in a proper manner.

This workshop was aimed at training and empowering officials working in public financial institutions so they can serve citizens better, implement welfare schemes effectively and uniformly across institutions and understand their responsibilities regarding reservations and services for persons with disabilities.

Wide Participation from Key Financial Institutions

The event was attended by senior representatives from:

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
  • Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA)
  • Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI)
  • 12 Public Sector Banks
  • 7 Public Sector Insurance Companies
  • 7 Public Financial Institutions

Chief Liaison Officers and senior officials from the Department of Financial Services were also present in the event.

Subject experts from top government departments and organizations such as Department of Personnel and Training and Office of the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, gave detailed presentations. They spoke about important topics such as:

  • Constitutional provisions related to reservation
  • The difference between vertical and horizontal reservations
  • How to prepare reservation rosters
  • Duties and importance of Liaison Officers
  • Key points of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016
  • Rules under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2017
  • Guidelines to improve accessibility in financial institutions
  • How to deal with public complaints and grievances effectively

This workshop shows the government’s strong focus on inclusive growth, social justice, and making sure that financial services are available to all sections of society, especially those from reserved categories and persons with disabilities. Through such initiatives, the government is working towards better implementation of reservation policies and improving the quality of public services.
