Government Officer Dies of Heart Attack in UP Secretariat

A government officer posted in the Uttar Pradesh Secretariat tragically died of a heart attack during an official meeting on Wednesday, highlighting growing health concerns over the rising number of such cases in the country.
The deceased, Pankaj Kumar, was a 48-year-old Section Officer from the 2013 batch, working in the Institutional Finance Section of the Secretariat. His sudden passing has left the entire government staff in shock and mourning.
What Happened in the Meeting
According to eyewitnesses, a routine meeting was being held under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary (APC) Deepak Kumar in the Secretariat. During the session, Pankaj Kumar suddenly began coughing and sweating profusely, after which he collapsed on the spot.
Fellow officers quickly rushed him to Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee (Civil) Hospital in Hazratganj, but doctors were unable to save him. He passed away during treatment, leaving a wave of sorrow across the Secretariat.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep grief over the untimely death of Pankaj Kumar and extended condolences to his family, which includes his wife and two daughters.
Employees across various departments in the Secretariat paid their respects and expressed concern about the increasing number of heart-related deaths among working professionals, especially under stress.
Demands to Improve Health Facilities
In the wake of the incident, Arjun Dev Bharti, President of the Secretariat Union, called for immediate steps to strengthen the medical facilities at the Secretariat dispensary in Bapu Bhavan. He emphasized that better emergency care and health monitoring are crucial to prevent such incidents in the future.
He also confirmed that the Secretariat Union will hold a special meeting on Thursday to discuss the issue and push for necessary improvements in employee healthcare services.
This tragic incident has once again drawn attention to the increasing number of heart attacks in India, particularly among middle-aged professionals. Health experts often link such events to high stress, long working hours, and lifestyle-related issues.
The death of Pankaj Kumar is not only a personal loss to his family and colleagues but also a reminder for government offices and other workplaces to prioritize employee health and emergency preparedness.
