One more incident of Theft from a Bank Locker has been reported in Haryana. As per the complaint, Jewelry was stolen from a bank locker in Panchkula, Haryana. The more surprising thing is that the victim is an employee of the same bank where the theft happened. After her complaint, the Sector 5 police station registered a case and started an investigation.

Maya Devi, a resident of Motiya Society in Zirakpur, Punjab, said that she is originally from Dadouli village in Hisar. She currently works at the Haryana State Co-operative Apex Bank in Sector 2, Panchkula. She took a locker in this bank on May 21, 2025. She had kept about 8 tolas of gold jewelry in the locker. When she checked the locker on October 1, she found that the jewelry was missing. She spoke to bank officials, but they did not give her any clear information.

She alleges that she was given an old locker instead of a new one. This means that someone else might also have locker keys. Moreover, the bank only had a three-month backup instead of six-month backup. Because of this, the theft could not be traced.

RBI Guideline: As per their internal security policy, banks may cover the entry and exit of the strong room and the common areas of operation under CCTV camera and preserve its recording for a period of not less than 180 days. In case any customer has complained to the bank that his/her locker is opened without his/her knowledge and authority, or any theft or security breach is noticed/observed, the bank shall preserve the CCTV recording till the police investigation is completed and the dispute is settled.
