German minister praises India’s UPI system, Watch video

The German embassy in India heaped praise on India’s robust digital infrastructure, hailing it as a standout achievement for the nation. This commendation followed an impressive demonstration by Germany’s Federal Minister for Digital and Transport, Volker Wissing, who utilized the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) to conduct a transaction in India, an experience that left him deeply intrigued.

In a post shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), the German embassy in India highlighted India’s digital success story, emphasizing the power of UPI in enabling lightning-fast transactions accessible to all. The post read, “Among India’s triumphs lies its digital infrastructure. UPI empowers everyone to conduct transactions in mere seconds. Millions of Indians utilize this system. Federal Minister for Digital and Transport @Wissing had a firsthand encounter with the simplicity of UPI payments and was truly captivated!”

Accompanying the post was a video showcasing the minister’s engagement with the UPI system.

Originating in India, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) stands as a mobile-centric rapid payment platform. It empowers users to execute instant transactions around the clock. Notably, nations such as Sri Lanka, France, UAE, and Singapore have entered partnerships with India to explore cutting-edge fintech and payment solutions.

A groundbreaking accord was signed between India and Singapore in February 2023, facilitating a connection between their respective payment systems. Similarly, France has taken a significant stride towards embracing India’s UPI payment mechanism. An agreement was solidified between India and France, opening the door for UPI transactions, starting with the iconic and beloved tourist landmark, the Eiffel Tower.
