RTI Question: What is the update on Five Day Banking and by when can it be implemented?
RTI Reply: No specific information such as a document with specific letter no./ date of I.R. Section, DFS have been sought by you. Under RTI Act, CPIO is required to provide information as exists in the record and does not suppose to create/ collect/ interpret information, or to give non-existing opinion/ advice on the queries raised by the applicants. Queries/ clarifications are not covered under Section 2(f) of the Right to Information Act, 2005. However, information as identified/ available, proposal of Indian Banks Association to declare all Saturdays as banking holidays was received in I.R. Section on 30.11.2023.
Through this reply, it’s clear that the proposal of 5 day banking is lying with the Government of India but the government is not willing to tell the dates of implementation. As per bank unions, the 12th BPS will only be signed when the government declares 5 days banking.
