A female judicial officer in Kottayam has taken leave in protest, alleging “continuous harassment” by her superior, Chief Judicial Magistrate Viveeja Sethumohan. Tiara Rose Mary, who serves as the Judicial Magistrate of the First Class-II court in Kottayam, has filed a complaint with the committee responsible for addressing grievances of judicial officers. She accuses CJM Sethumohan of subjecting her to harassment both personally and professionally.

In her complaint, Mary outlines a series of events that have strained her relationship with Sethumohan since August 2023. She is seeking the committee’s intervention to address her grievances, which include public blame, biased allocation of additional charges, and unfair treatment during her pregnancy.

Mary’s 15-page letter also highlights the emotional stress caused by undue pressure, biased actions in staff allocation, and unreasonable demands from Sethumohan. She expresses concerns about the health and safety of her fetus.

Since March 1, Mary has been on leave and will continue to be until her grievances are addressed. According to official sources, she is expected to remain on leave until May 10. High Court sources confirm that they have received Mary’s complaint and that the judge-in-charge of the district will soon take up the matter. An explanation will be sought from CJM Sethumohan.

The committee responsible for addressing grievances of judicial officers is chaired by the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court and includes two other High Court judges, the Advocate General, and others.
