Female Bank Employee Molested by Colleague in Gandhinagar Ahmedabad Gujarat: A female employee working in a reputed bank has filed FIR with police against a colleague for molesting her in basement of the office. The employee, working at a bank in Gandhinagar, Gujarat stated that her colleague touched her inappropriately on 25 June around 6.15 PM. The 35-year-old woman has been working with the branch for three years. She said that her colleague followed her to the basement after work. The name of employee has not been revealed due to privacy concerns.
“My two-wheeler was parked in the basement. He was talking about office matters while walking behind me. As I reached the basement, I stopped to adjust my dupatta when he molested me,” the complainant stated in her FIR. Startled, she immediately pushed his hand away. “He laughed and apologized twice before walking away swiftly,” she stated. The woman reported the incident to her branch on the next day. However, she could not follow up on the matter as her brother had met with a serious accident and was admitted to a hospital. She took a month-long leave and was unable to pursue the matter further. Upon her return, she found no action had been taken by Bank regarding her complaint. Feeling helpless, she approached the police.
The incident raises serious questions about the bank’s handling of sexual harassment complaints and the lack of accountability within the institution. As per the POSH Act (Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act, 2013), every organization is required to have an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) to ensure prompt investigation and justice in such cases. Banks and other financial institutions must take such complaints seriously and act immediately to create a safe and respectful workplace for all employees. Ignoring such issues not only damages trust but also violates the legal and ethical responsibilities of the organization.
The complainant has also indicated that CCTV footage from the basement may be available and promised to provide it to the authorities. Police have registered the complaint under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage a woman’s modesty and sexual harassment. Investigation is ongoing and more details will be released soon.
