There is a big relief for Farmers in Maharashtra. The Maharashtra government has announced relief measures for farmers who suffered losses due to heavy rains in 34 districts of the State. The Government has ordered rationalisation of cooperative loans and suspension of loan recovery for one year.
According to the order, 347 tehsils across the State experienced large-scale damage to crops, farmland, houses, deaths, and loss of cattle and other animals. Thus, the Government has ordered relief for farmers. The relief measures include:
- Rationalisation of loans from cooperative societies.
- Suspension of farm loan recovery for one year.
- Waiving of examination fees for students of Classes 10 and 12 in the affected tehsils.
- Waiver of electricity bills for three months.
The State agriculture department’s assessment revealed that crops on 65 lakh hectares were damaged due to rains between June and September. Heavy rainfall and floods in September particularly affected Marathwada and surrounding regions.
Earlier this week, the State Government announced a compensation package worth ₹31,628 crore for farmers impacted by the rains and floods. The package includes compensation for:
- Crop losses
- Loss of life and property
- Soil erosion
- Direct financial support to farmers
- Concessions generally provided in drought-like conditions
- Hospitalisation expenses
- Ex-gratia payments
- Damage to houses, shops, and cattle sheds
These measures aim to provide immediate relief and support to farmers and residents affected by the severe monsoon impact.
