EOU Recovers ₹40 Lakh Cash in Raids on Bank Officer; Luxury Items and Land Papers Seized

A major crackdown by the Economic Offence Unit (EOU) created a stir in Patna and Gopalganj on Friday. The team carried out simultaneous raids at six locations linked to Central Co-operative Bank Development Officer Bhavesh Kumar Singh. Four locations in Patna and two in Gopalganj were searched as part of a disproportionate assets investigation.
During the raid, EOU officials recovered ₹40 lakh cash from Bhavesh Kumar’s rice mill in Bihta. More cash and jewellery were seized from his Patna residence. Officers questioned Bhavesh throughout the operation and checked every corner of the house, including a bag pulled out from under his bed.
Bhavesh’s ancestral home is in Gopalganj, where he also owns a petrol pump. The EOU team searched the petrol pump as well and examined sales records.
Sources said the raids began at 9 AM at all six locations. Bhavesh was at his Patna home when officials arrived. His servant opened the door, and he was shocked to see so many officers. After entering, the team locked the main gate and started questioning him. Initially, Bhavesh did not cooperate, but the team began their detailed search.
Officials found bags hidden inside the bed, which contained cash, land documents and expensive watches stored in a cupboard. According to EOU, Bhavesh is accused of possessing assets nearly 60% higher than his known income. The investigation is still in progress, and more properties and documents are being checked.
Meanwhile, Bhavesh’s elder brother and former panchayat head, Rajesh Singh, claimed that no irregularities were found at their petrol pump. He alleged that the raids were politically motivated ahead of upcoming elections.
