The Delhi government has announced that February 12, 2025, will be a public holiday in honor of Guru Ravidas Jayanti. This decision was confirmed through an official notification issued by the General Administration Department on Monday.
According to the notification, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi has approved the holiday. All government offices, autonomous bodies, and public sector undertakings under the Delhi government will remain closed on this day.
Earlier, in November 2024, the government had declared Ravidas Jayanti as a restricted holiday. However, this decision has now been changed, and the restricted holiday has been cancelled. Instead, it has been declared a full public holiday.
Guru Ravidas Jayanti is an important festival celebrated to honor the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas, a 15th-century saint and social reformer. The decision to declare a public holiday is expected to allow more people to participate in the celebrations and pay tribute to the saint’s teachings.
