Darbhanga, Bihar: In a shocking daylight robbery, three miscreants escaped with a bag containing ₹3.81 lakh from the Central Bank of India branch located in Tower Chowk, Lalbagh under Nagar Police Station area on Tuesday. The money belonged to a pharma company and was being deposited by Shivam Kumar Thakur, an employee of the company.
How the Robbery Happened
Shivam Kumar, a resident of the Kamtaul Police Station area, came to deposit the cash, as he does every day. As he stood third in line at the bank counter, a young man approached him pretending to need help with a withdrawal form. The man kept Shivam busy by asking repeated questions like where to write the amount, where to mention the date, and where the account number should be written.
While Shivam was distracted, another youth quietly picked up his bag full of cash and walked away. Two other accomplices followed him, helping in the escape.
One Accused Nabbed
Realizing what had happened, Shivam immediately informed the bank guard, who unfortunately was not at the entrance but sitting on the other side of the bank. Shivam then ran out and managed to catch the youth who had engaged him in conversation. He was nabbed on a nearby street.
The arrested youth initially claimed to be from Laheriyasarai, but during police interrogation, it was found that he is actually from Begusarai. He was identified as Vikas Mishra alias Abhay Mishra, son of late Bablu Mishra, a resident of Sograha, under Phulwaria Police Station, Begusarai district.
Robbery Captured on CCTV
The entire incident was caught on the bank’s CCTV cameras. The footage shows four young men inside the bank. One of them distracted Shivam, another stole the bag, and two others provided cover during their escape. The CCTV clearly indicates that the robbery was pre-planned and executed in coordination.
Police Action and Investigation
City SP Ashok Kumar Chaudhary confirmed that the robbery took place inside the bank premises. An FIR has been lodged, and raids are ongoing to catch the remaining three suspects. The police are currently interrogating the arrested accused, who also has a criminal record.
Senior Superintendent of Police Jagunath Reddy Jalareddy also confirmed the details, stating that the victim Shivam works for Jok Jain Pharma, located just 200 meters from the bank. He regularly deposits company funds and was targeted during his routine visit.
Bank Management and Police Response
After learning about the incident, bank staff quickly informed the police. Pharma company owner Ashu Jain also reached the spot after receiving a call from Shivam. Police have confirmed that all four accused were already present inside the bank before the theft occurred.
Authorities are reviewing the CCTV footage carefully and questioning the arrested youth for more details about his gang and their operations.
