DA Hiked for Government Employees: The Ministry of Finance, Department of Expenditure, has recently announced an increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) rates for employees under the 5th and 6th Central Pay Commissions. This revision, which takes effect from July 1, 2024, aims to provide relief to thousands of government employees as they face rising living costs due to inflation.
Key Highlights of the DA Revision
The updated DA rates affect two main groups of employees based on the pay scales set by the 5th and 6th Central Pay Commissions:
- Employees on the 5th Central Pay Commission Pay Scale:
- New DA Rate: Increased from 443% to 455% of Basic Pay.
- Effective Date: July 1, 2024.
- Employees on the 6th Central Pay Commission Pay Scale/Grade Pay:
- New DA Rate: Increased from 239% to 246% of Basic Pay.
- Effective Date: July 1, 2024.
These DA increases will benefit Central Government employees and those in Central Autonomous Bodies who still receive pay according to the 5th or 6th Central Pay Commissions. The adjustments ensure that employees on pre-revised pay scales also get an increase in allowances, helping them cope with inflation.
Additional DA Regulation Provisions
As per the Office Memorandums, the guidelines for regulating DA, as issued in October 1997 and August 2008, will continue to apply. These instructions, outlined in paragraphs 3, 4, and 5 of the memorandums, will ensure uniformity in DA regulation across departments and autonomous bodies.
Notification and Implementation
The Deputy Secretary to the Government of India has instructed that this DA revision be communicated to all ministries, departments, and autonomous organizations that follow the Central Government pay scales. This will ensure the revised DA rates are implemented promptly for all eligible employees.
Impact on Central Government Employees
This DA hike provides crucial financial relief to government employees in the face of inflation. Employees on the 5th Pay Commission pay scale will see a 12 percentage point increase, while those on the 6th Pay Commission pay scale will receive a 7 percentage point increase, leading to a modest rise in their monthly income.
