On Tuesday night in Jabalpur, during an attempt to collect a bounced installment, the Chief Manager and Branch Manager of Central Bank of India were held hostage and beaten by the shop owner of Hunar Graphics.
Additionally, the shop owner used caste-related slurs against them. Following an investigation, the Omati police station registered a case on Wednesday, charging the shop owner, located at Rasal Chowk, with various offenses including hostage-taking, indecency, threats, and obstructing government work under the Scheduled Castes Act.
The shop owner is currently on the run, and the police are actively searching for him. The incident occurred at Hunar Graphics, owned by Kavaljit Singh Chatbal, who had taken a home loan from the Garha branch of Central Bank of India but had not been depositing the installments.
Branch Manager Vivek Namdev from the Gada branch had gone to Hunar Graphics to request payment. Vivek Namdev then called Chief Manager Anil Kumar Nayak from the Central Bank of India Regional Office Gwarighat Road to join him in talking to Kavaljit Singh at Rasal Chowk in hopes of resolving the issue.
Upon their arrival at Kawaljeet’s shop, the shop operator abruptly closed the shutter and took both officers hostage. Kawaljeet, the owner of Hunar Graphics, physically assaulted the bank officials, verbally abused them, threatened their lives, and warned against future visits for installment collection.
Upon receiving reports of the disturbance and the hostage situation, Omati police station officers also arrived at the scene. Currently, based on the bank manager’s complaint, the police have filed a case against the shop operator, Kawaljeet Singh, and are actively searching for him.
