In Gwalior, ₹22,000 was stolen from a woman’s bag inside a bank. The incident took place at the Punjab National Bank in Tansen Nagar while she was standing in line at the cash counter. The entire theft was caught on the bank’s CCTV cameras.
The victim, Sapna Sengar (37), wife of Anil Sengar, lives in Bhamber Singh Ka Bada, Ghasmandi. She came to the bank around 12 noon on Wednesday to deposit ₹22,000 into her account. While standing in line, she was talking on her mobile phone.
An unknown thief standing behind her stole ₹22,000 from her shoulder bag. Sapna had opened her bag to take out her phone and forgot to close it properly, which the thief took advantage of.
After finishing her call, when Sapna put her phone back in the bag, she found the cash missing. She immediately raised an alarm and informed the police. Officers arrived and started investigating.
The police checked the CCTV footage from the bank and clearly saw the thief stealing the cash. Based on the victim’s complaint and the footage, a case has been registered, and the police have started searching for the thief.
Gwalior Police Station in-charge Prashant Sharma said that the cash from the woman’s bag was stolen while she was at the Punjab National Bank in Tansen Nagar. He added that the thief is being searched for and will be arrested soon.
This incident raises serious questions about the bank’s security. Banks should improve their security systems to prevent such incidents in the future.
