In Jalaun, a shocking incident took place on Tuesday morning when two youths attacked the branch manager of the State Bank of India (SBI). The manager, Ishwar Dayal lives in Orai and was recently posted to the local branch. He was going to the bank when the incident occurred.
According to his statement, around 9:45 am, while he was driving from Orai, two youths on a bike started following his car. When he slowed down at Devnagar intersection, the youths stopped their bike, confronted him, dragged him out of his car, and began beating him.
The assault continued until people gathered at the spot. When local people intervened, the attackers fled from the spot, threatening that they would not allow him to work in Jalaun. The branch manager also expressed concern that despite a police picket being deployed at the nearby pink booth, no policeman intervened during the incident. After the attackers escaped, two policemen arrived at the spot and informed the local police.
This is not the only incident of assault on bank employees. Recently, there have been several cases of attacks on bank staff. The Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, has also issued an advisory to state governments to strengthen the protection of bank employees, but it seems to have had little effect.
Circle Officer (CO) Shailendra Bajpai confirmed that an investigation is underway. The police are trying to identify the attackers with the help of CCTV footage and have assured that strict action will be taken against them. More details will be released soon.
