Bomb Threat at South Indian Bank’s Sungam Branch in Coimbatore

On Tuesday morning, the South Indian Bank’s Sungam branch in Coimbatore city received a bomb threat email from an unknown sender. The email claimed that a bomb had been planted at the bank. As soon as the bank officials in Chennai received the threat, they immediately informed the authorities.

Police sources said the South Indian Bank’s office in Chennai received a bomb threat email from a stranger around 10.15am on Tuesday.

The Coimbatore city police responded quickly. They dispatched a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) to the scene. The team, led by Special Sub-Inspector Janarthanan, along with a sniffer dog squad, thoroughly searched the bank branch. After a careful inspection, they confirmed that the bomb threat was a hoax.

The police have now registered a case under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act for making a false bomb threat. The authorities are investigating the matter to track down the person responsible for sending the threat.

Some days ago Punjab National Bank Branch in Indore had also received bonb threat. In Indore’s Siyaganj area, Punjab National Bank branch received a bomb threat through an email. In the email, it was mentioned that a blast would take place in the bank at 2 PM and that the explosion would be triggered remotely. The message warned that the entire bank would be destroyed.

As soon as the bank staff saw this email, they got worried and immediately informed the police control room. The police took the threat seriously and acted quickly. Police personnel from the Central Kotwali Police Station reached the bank to secure the area. Along with them, a bomb disposal squad also arrived to check the entire building carefully.

Not only Banks, Other Organisations are also receiving Bomb Threats

Recently, a few days ago hoax bomb threat email was received at Acharya Institutes on Tuesday. Three prominent colleges in western Bengaluru received similar hoax bomb threat emails last week.

On Saturday night, a Canadian national created panic in Indigo flight saying that he was carrying a bomb. He was arrested from a Bengaluru-bound IndiGo flight in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi for creating a panic among passengers by claiming that he was carrying a bomb. The incident took place on Saturday night, and the Canadian has been detained by security personnel for further questioning.

Kerala authorities on Monday received bomb threats targeting several key locations, including the Secretariat, the Chief Minister’s Office, and the Transport Commissioner’s Office, local media reported. These threats come just days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned visit to the state on May 2.
