BMS calls 12 Feb Strike politically motivated, Will not join in Strike

The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has announced that it will not participate in the nationwide general strike scheduled for 12 February 2026.

In an official press release issued on 31 January 2026, BMS said it does not support the strike, stating that the call for the strike has been made with political motives by some Central Trade Unions and the Samyukta Kisan Morcha.

BMS Stand on Labour Codes

BMS clarified that it welcomes the four Labour Codes, though it has raised concerns about certain provisions in two of them. The organisation said that the Code on Wages and the Code on Social Security are historic and progressive reforms for workers.

BMS added that its concerns regarding the remaining two Labour Codes were discussed in detail with the Union Labour Minister during meetings held on 13 and 21 November. During these meetings, the Labour Minister assured BMS that the Government would address the issues raised.

Government Assurances Cited

Apart from Labour Codes, BMS also placed several other demands related to labour welfare before the Government. According to BMS, the Labour Minister has assured that these issues will also be considered and resolved.

Based on these assurances, BMS said it has welcomed the notifications issued for the implementation of the Labour Codes.

No Support for Politically Motivated Strikes

BMS reiterated that it supports constructive and pro-worker initiatives of the Government. However, it firmly opposes policies that may negatively impact workers.

The organisation clearly stated that it does not take part in politically motivated agitations, and political interests should be kept away from labour issues. Therefore, BMS confirmed that it will neither support nor participate in the strike on 12 February 2026.
