A surprising incident has come to light from Jalna district, Maharashtra. BJP MLA Narayan Kuche, who represents the Badnapur constituency, is accused of misbehaving with a bank manager. An audio clip of a phone conversation, in which the MLA is allegedly abusing and threatening the manager, has gone viral. The viral audio clip is given below. You should listen to the clip below and then read the full news given below.
Why Did the MLA Call the Bank Manager?
The incident is linked to a farmer’s loan. The farmer has not repaid his loan and Bank has freezed his Fixed Deposit (FD). The MLA reportedly called Lalit Shirlekar, the manager of Union Bank in Jamkhed (Jalna district), and pressured him to release the money from fixed deposit (FD) that was frozen because the farmer had not repaid his loan.
As per bank rules, when a loan is unpaid, the bank freezes certain accounts like FD. This means the farmer cannot use the FD money until the loan is cleared. Despite this rule, the MLA allegedly tried to force the bank to release the funds by threatening the manager over the phone.

Can Banks Freeze Other Accounts in case of Loan Default
Yes, Banks can freeze other accounts in case of loan default. Banks have right to set-off. The Right of Set-Off is a legal right that allows a bank to adjust or recover money owed by a customer (loan or overdraft) by using the balance available in other accounts of the same customer within the same bank.
If a person has two accounts in the same bank:
- One account has money (credit balance)
- The other account is overdrawn (debit balance or loan)
Then the bank can use the money from the credit account to recover the money owed in the debit account. This process is called “set-off.”
Example:
Suppose a customer has:
- ₹75,000 in a Savings Account
- ₹50,000 loan pending in an Overdraft Account
The bank can set off the loan by taking ₹50,000 from the savings account. After the set-off:
- The loan becomes ₹0
- ₹25,000 remains in the savings account
