Bengaluru Doctor criticizes HDFC Bank over repeated Spam Calls for Loans

A senior doctor based in Bengaluru, Dr. Sundar Sankaran, has expressed his frustration with HDFC Bank after receiving numerous spam calls from the bank’s loan requirement team. Dr. Sankaran, who is the program director at Aster Institute of Renal Transplantation, stated that he tried blocking some of the numbers, but the calls continued from several other numbers. He also mentioned that after confronting one of the callers, another person claiming to be the telecaller’s manager contacted him, questioning why he was “rude”.

Dr. Sankaran took to social media to share his experience and called the HDFC loan requirement callers a “nuisance”. He mentioned that if one gets angry with them, they are pestered with more calls despite blocking the numbers. He also highlighted the need for HDFC to take action and investigate the issue.

The doctor’s post gained traction on social media, with many users sharing similar experiences and expressing their frustration with spam calls from banks. Dr. Sankaran had previously notified HDFC about the problem, but the spam calls continued. In response to his post, an HDFC customer service representative apologized for his experience and requested him to provide the caller details for better assistance.

It is worth noting that in a previous communication with Dr. Sankaran, HDFC mentioned that while they have stringent controls over telemarketing activities, it is beyond their control to identify freelance agents and take action against them.

The issue of spam calls from banks offering loans is not unique to Dr. Sankaran. In a survey released in February, around 90% of respondents stated that they receive pesky calls from individuals selling financial services, real estate projects, and other products, despite being registered on the Do Not Disturb list.

Dr. Sankaran’s predicament has resonated with many users who have also faced similar issues with spam calls. The constant interruptions from these calls can be particularly troublesome, especially when attending to patients who are sick.
