A tragic incident took place in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, where a 28-year-old railway worker, Amit Pal, lost his life after reportedly consuming poison. Amit, a resident of Peepal Sana Chaudhary in the Bhojipura police station area, was deeply disturbed by alleged threats from a bank manager. He passed away on Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
What Happened?
Amit Pal worked as a trolley man at the Bhojipura railway station. According to his brother Sunil, Amit had been facing mental harassment for several days. The manager of the State Bank branch allegedly pressurized Amit regarding a transaction of ₹16 lakh that had been deposited into his bank account.
Sunil claimed that the bank manager repeatedly used abusive language and accused Amit of having “black money” in his account. It is also alleged that the manager threatened Amit by saying his railway job could be terminated because of this issue.
The wife of the deceased has lodged a complaint against the branch manager of SBI’s Bhojipura branch. After receiving the complaint, the police has started investigation.
Amit Pal was working as a trolleyman at Bhojipura railway station. He had a savings account in Bhojipura SBI branch. A transaction of Rs 16 lakh was done in this account. The bank had put the account on hold. A report was filed in the cyber cell police station. The family members of the deceased allege that the branch manager was threatening to get him dismissed from the department. Hurt by this, Amit Pal ate poisonous substance on Tuesday night. This led to his death.
How the Tragedy Unfolded
On Tuesday night, Amit reached a breaking point. Feeling mentally tortured, he consumed poison. Later that night, when his wife Neelam brought food to his room, Amit informed her about what he had done. Shocked and panicked, the family rushed him to a nearby hospital. Despite doctors’ efforts, Amit passed away on Wednesday morning.
News of his death left the family devastated and created a stir in the local community.
Family’s Allegations
Amit’s father, Mohanlal, shared that Amit had been working with the railways for the past nine years under the BRS (Better Railway Service) scheme. He strongly believes that his son’s death was a result of the mental pressure and threats from the bank manager.
The police reached the scene after receiving the report, took the body into custody, and sent it for postmortem. According to Inspector Praveen Solanki, no official written complaint has been filed by the family so far, but an investigation has been launched based on their allegations.
Bank’s Response
The branch manager of the State Bank admitted there was a ₹16 lakh transaction in Amit’s account. He explained that the matter had been reported to the cyber cell, which led to Amit’s account being put on hold. However, the manager claimed that the bank had no connection with the unfortunate incident.
More details about this incident will be released soon.
