In the district of Raigarh, about ten days ago, robbers looted approximately 5.63 crore rupees from an Axis Bank. Following this incident, the police had issued instructions for security arrangements to be made in banks.
However, most of the banks in Jashpur district are not implementing security measures. There are approximately 77 banks operating in the district, with around 17 of them located in the district headquarters.
The road leading from Gamhariya to Ambikapur has the highest number of banks. Upon investigation, several shortcomings were found in most banks. Except for a couple of banks, security measures in all banks are inadequate, with no security guards present.
Additionally, there is no proper parking arrangement, leading to frequent traffic jams.Due to being a major route in the city, traffic jams are a common occurrence, deteriorating the traffic system.
Moreover, most banks only have CCTV cameras installed inside, lacking external surveillance. This means that people coming and going near the banks are not visible on camera. Those CCTV cameras that are placed outside the banks have limited range and cover only the immediate vicinity of the bank.
This complicates the task of apprehending robbers after bank heists. The Superintendent of Police in Jashpur, D. Ravishankar, directed the banks to maintain a 24-hour guard, verify the identities of employees and cash vehicle personnel, establish parking facilities, and display contact numbers for the Police Station, Circle Inspector, and Control Room at the bank entrances.
However, so far, these contact numbers have not been provided at the entrances of any of the banks.Inside and outside the banks, police contact numbers are not displayed, and bank managers have been instructed to arrange for parking facilities.
The lack of parking space is a major issue in front of three banks on Kali Mandir Road – State Bank, Bank of Baroda, and UCO Bank.
On Gamhariya Road, which has the highest concentration of banks, including Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, IDBI Bank, Central Bank, Axis Bank, Chhattisgarh State Cooperative Bank, and Bank of Maharashtra, only Axis Bank has proper parking facilities, leading to traffic congestion at other banks like State Bank, Bank of Baroda, and HDFC Bank.
