Chhattisgarh: In a shocking incident, a victim has come forward to accuse the police at Mohan Nagar police station in Durg district of severely beating him. Tejesh Sharma, a bank employee and resident of Katulbod, lodged a complaint with Deputy CM Arun Sao, alleging that he was subjected to brutal assault on the orders of trainee DSP Akanksha Pandey and constables Rajeev Ranjan Singh, Kamlesh Yadav, Havildar Vishwajeet Tandon, and others.
According to Tejesh Sharma, he had a dispute with his wife on the night of March 3 and 4, during which his wife called the emergency helpline. Subsequently, at the Mohan Nagar police station, DSP Akanksha Pandey not only subjected him to a severe beating but also ordered constables Rajeev Ranjan Singh and Kamlesh Yadav to assault him with bats and belts. The assault was so intense that Tejesh Sharma lost consciousness, while around 10-15 policemen, including Havildar Vishwajeet Tandon, participated in the assault.
Despite pleas from Tejesh Sharma’s wife and himself, the beating did not stop, and he was not released. The DSP even threatened to beat Tejesh Sharma’s wife and subsequently, Section 151 was imposed on Tejesh Sharma, leading to his release the following day.
Tejesh Sharma has expressed his frustration with the lack of action taken against the accused, as he has already lodged complaints with the SP, IG, and Human Rights Commission. He has also informed Deputy CM Arun Sao about the threats to his life from the police.
During his meeting with Deputy CM Arun Sao at the BJP office, Tejesh Sharma handed over a written complaint detailing the incident. He further revealed that the atmosphere at the Mohan Nagar police station was already tense due to another case, and some policemen in civilian attire appeared to be worried. It was during this time that probationer DSP Akanksha Pandey arrived at the station.
Tejesh Sharma alleges that DSP Akanksha spoke to him in a demeaning and criminalizing manner when he questioned her behavior, stating that he was not a criminal and had only had a fight with his wife. This remark seemed to enrage her, and she ordered her staff to show him how to speak to the police. The situation rapidly deteriorated from there.
The victim’s plea for justice and accountability highlights the urgent need for a thorough investigation into the alleged police brutality and misconduct at the Mohan Nagar police station. The case raises serious concerns about the misuse of power and the violation of human rights by those entrusted with protecting the community. It is crucial that swift action is taken to ensure justice for Tejesh Sharma and to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
