The arrest came just a day after Suneesh Thomas, the second accused in the case, was also taken into custody. The two men are accused of stealing 18 packets of gold from the Kacherikadavu branch of the bank. These gold packets had been pledged by customers.

How the Theft Happened

According to the police, Sudheer replaced the pledged gold with fake items. Among the stolen gold packets, 16 belonged to relatives and friends of Suneesh, who runs a private financial business. Additionally, Sudheer’s wife’s pledged gold was also swapped out.

The scam was uncovered when a customer discovered that the gold they had pledged was fake and reported it to the authorities. The bank later confirmed the theft during an internal audit of their records.

Discovery of Evidence and Investigation

After the theft was discovered, Sudheer’s bag, mobile phone, and motorcycle were found abandoned, raising suspicions. This led to a formal complaint being filed by the bank’s secretary. The police are now investigating the case further and suspect that more people might be involved in the crime.

The theft of gold from Anapanthy Service Cooperative Bank has shocked both customers and bank officials. With Sudheer Thomas and Suneesh Thomas now in custody, the police continue to investigate and gather more evidence to uncover the full scope of the fraud.
