A shocking incident came to light in Indore where a bank’s assistant manager, Varun Shukla, was caught stealing gold and diamond jewellery from his own relatives—his sister-in-law and aunt-in-law. Both women had come from Lucknow to attend a wedding in Indore. After stealing the valuables, Varun hid them at a friend’s house and then went to the police station himself, pretending to help with the case.
The theft happened at a hotel in Nipania, Indore, where Varun and the relatives were staying. Varun works as an assistant manager at a bank in Jabalpur and lives in JDA Vijay Nagar Patti Chowk.
How the Theft Happened
According to Lasudiya Police Station in-charge Taresh Soni, Priyanka Tiwari from Lucknow had come for her sister’s wedding along with other relatives. She was staying in one hotel room with her aunt, and Varun was in another room. On Friday night around 10:30 pm, they locked their room and went for dinner. When they returned at 1:30 am, they found that their handbags were open and jewellery along with cash had been stolen.
Varun acted unusually after the theft. Instead of behaving like a victim’s family member, he rushed to the police station and insisted on filing an FIR. This unusual behavior raised suspicion.
Police Investigation and Discovery
Sub Inspector Somnath Maurya and his team started questioning hotel staff, the complainant, and other family members. They found that Varun had taken Priyanka’s room key earlier, saying he needed to use the washroom. This made the police more suspicious. Later, Varun’s driver revealed that he had seen Varun carrying a bag and dropping it off at a friend’s house before leaving.
Confession and Recovery
When the police confronted Varun with evidence and questioned him strictly, he confessed to stealing the jewellery. The police quickly recovered the stolen items from his friend’s house. The estimated value of the recovered gold and diamond jewellery is around Rs 20 lakh.
Conclusion
The police solved the case within a few hours of the complaint. The bank manager, who was trusted by his own family, turned out to be the thief. This incident shows how sometimes people close to us may commit crimes, and it highlights the importance of thorough police investigation.
