One more suicide has been reported in Bank in India. Earlier, Canara Bank AEO had committed Suicide allegedly due to Work Pressure and Bank of Baroda Chief Manager in Baramati Pune Died by Suicide Due to Work Pressure.
This time, an employee of Bandhan Bank – a private sector bank, has died. The incident took place in Motihari on Wednesday evening, where Uday Shankar Kumar, the branch manager of Bandhan Bank in Nagar police station area, died suddenly while at work. According to eyewitnesses, Kumar was working in his chamber when, around 7:30 pm, he collapsed from his chair. The staff rushed him to a nearby hospital, but the doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Kumar, aged 40, had been serving in the Motihari branch since 2022. His sudden death has shocked colleagues and family members. His wife, Vijayalakshmi Devi, has alleged that mental harassment by senior officials led to his death. She specifically named Muzaffarpur cluster head, Sameer Sinha, accusing him of constantly pressuring her husband, often using harsh and inappropriate language during phone calls.
According to Vijayalakshmi, her husband had been under severe stress because of frequent phone calls from the senior officer and the unrelenting pressure of work. Breaking down, she said that the untimely death has left her 10-year-old son’s future uncertain.
Some bank employees, speaking on condition of anonymity, also confirmed that work pressure in the branch had become unbearable. They said scolding from senior officials over the phone, fear of accountability, and constant pressure to meet targets had become a part of their daily routine.
“The work pressure in our branch has crossed all limits. Every day we live under fear — constant scolding from seniors over the phone, pressure to meet unrealistic targets, and the threat of accountability. It has taken a serious toll on our mental health,” said some bank employees, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The news of Kumar’s death has created a wave of mourning within the bank. Colleagues are deeply shaken and many are openly questioning the toxic work culture and the behaviour of senior officials that may have contributed to this tragic incident.
The sudden death of Bandhan Bank’s branch manager in Motihari has once again exposed a harsh reality — bank employees across the country are working under immense mental stress and unhealthy work pressure. Reports of harassment, unrealistic targets, constant scolding, and fear of accountability are not isolated incidents but an everyday reality for many in the sector.
Banks must recognise that employees are the backbone of the financial system. While performance and productivity are important, they cannot come at the cost of mental health and human dignity. Senior officials need to change their approach from pressure-driven management to supportive leadership. Strict policies must be enforced to curb harassment, and every employee should have a safe channel to report workplace bullying without fear of retaliation.
