Axis Bank has reappointed Amitabh Chaudhry as its Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for another three years. His new term will start in January 2025 and run through December 31, 2027. This decision was initially approved by Axis Bank’s shareholders during the 30th Annual General Meeting held on July 26, 2024, and it has now received the final approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

In a formal announcement on October 24, Axis Bank shared, “The Reserve Bank of India has approved the re-appointment of Amitabh Chaudhry as the Managing Director & CEO of the Bank for a period of three years, effective from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2027.”

Chaudhry has been with Axis Bank since 2019, after a successful nine-year tenure at HDFC Life Insurance. Under his leadership, Axis Bank has seen significant growth, particularly in retail banking and digital services, solidifying its position in the Indian banking market. During his time at Axis Bank, Chaudhry spearheaded major initiatives that transformed the bank’s technological infrastructure and introduced new ways of acquiring business.

One of the most notable achievements under his leadership was Axis Bank’s acquisition of Citibank’s retail business in India in 2023. This major deal significantly strengthened Axis Bank’s operations in the country and enhanced its market presence.

Amitabh Chaudhry brings extensive experience to Axis Bank. Before joining the bank, he held key leadership roles, including serving as the CEO of Infosys BPO and the head of the testing unit at Infosys Technologies. He also worked with Bank of America in various capacities, including technology investment banking and regional finance. Chaudhry began his career in 1987 and has since built a solid reputation in the banking and financial sectors.

Chaudhry’s academic background includes an engineering degree from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, and a postgraduate degree in business management from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.

Under Chaudhry’s leadership, Axis Bank is expected to continue its growth trajectory and maintain its position as one of India’s leading private sector banks.
