Termination and Resignation Dispute

Shivani Tyagi, 27, had joined Axis House in Sector 128 in October 2023. On July 10, she resigned following a heated altercation with a colleague, who was at the same rank. Instead of accepting her resignation, the sales manager issued her a termination notice on July 12, the same day she consumed poison. The police suggested that this termination was a retaliatory move, as Tyagi had resigned after a confrontation with another female colleague. An Axis Bank spokesperson clarified that Tyagi had actually been issued a show-cause notice by their staffing services partner on July 10.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Md Akram, 34, the sales manager, was taken into custody by the Nandgram police for questioning. Akram, along with the assistant sales manager and the colleague accused by Tyagi of harassment, have been named in the FIR filed under Section 108 (abetment to suicide) of the BNS at Nandgram police station. The FIR was lodged after Tyagi’s brother brought her note to the authorities.

CCTV Footage and Witness Statements

According to ACP Ravi Kumar, the police have sought CCTV footage from Axis House to aid in their investigation and have recorded statements from Tyagi’s colleagues. Akram claimed during questioning that Tyagi’s resignation followed a dispute with her colleague and alleged that the colleague had influenced him to issue the termination notice instead of accepting the resignation.

Harassment Allegations

In her note, Tyagi accused her peer of using derogatory language, including calling her a “divorcee” and “bandariya (monkey).” She reported repeated complaints to senior staff about the harassment, which she claimed went unaddressed. Police sources revealed that Tyagi was also harassed for her “fashion sense” and her preference for solitude after work hours.

Family and Organizational Responses

Tyagi’s brother, Gaurav, described the bullying his sister faced, emphasizing that she was mocked for her simplicity and labeled as “old-fashioned” and a “party killer.” An Axis Bank spokesperson stated that there was a major disagreement between Tyagi and a Quess Corp employee and affirmed that Axis Bank is cooperating with the investigation. Quess Corp, which provided staffing services, claimed that their role was limited to hiring, training, and deployment, and that they would assist in the investigation by providing necessary documentation.

Conclusion

The investigation continues as the police search for the colleague and assistant sales manager mentioned in the FIR, who are currently absconding.
