An attempted robbery at a State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Lilanwali village, located under the Sangaria police station area in Hanumangarh district (Rajasthan), was foiled in the early hours of Monday. Unidentified thieves broke into the bank premises at night but failed in their attempt to steal cash.

How the Attempted Robbery Took Place

According to police sources, the thieves broke the main door locks and other entry points of the bank branch. Once inside the premises, they damaged the CCTV system by cutting wires and even destroyed one of the CCTV cameras. They also scattered important paper records kept in the bank.

However, the robbers were unable to reach the cash room, which remained completely secure. This prevented what could have been a major theft incident.

Police Case Registered

The incident came to light on Monday morning around 9:15 AM, when Gautam Yadav, the branch manager of SBI Lilanwali, arrived at the bank along with his staff. They found that the locks were broken, and they immediately informed the Sangaria police station.

Police personnel soon arrived at the scene and opened the doors in their presence. Upon inspection, they found:

  • Five broken locks, including the main door
  • Cut wires of the bank’s CCTV system
  • One broken camera
  • Scattered bank documents and paper records
  • Cash room untouched and secure

Based on the written complaint submitted by the branch manager Gautam Yadav (38), a resident of Behror district, Kotputli, a formal FIR (First Information Report) has been registered at Sangaria police station against unknown persons.

Investigation Underway

The case has now been handed over to ASI Rohtash Kumar for a detailed investigation. Police officials have said that efforts are being made to identify the culprits using any possible CCTV footage (if recoverable) and local intelligence.

No Cash Loss, But Security Concerns Remain

Although no cash was stolen during the attempted robbery, the incident has raised serious concerns about bank security, especially in rural branches. The damage to surveillance equipment and attempt to destroy records indicate that the intruders were well-prepared and possibly had prior knowledge of the layout.

Conclusion

Thanks to the strong security of the cash room and timely action by the bank staff and local police, a major robbery was prevented at the SBI branch in Lilanwali village. Authorities are now investigating the incident to trace the thieves and ensure such attempts do not happen again.
