The Assam Government has announced a series of initiatives aimed at benefiting government employees and promoting entrepreneurship in the state. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled the plans, which include a mutual transfer portal for government employees, enhanced insurance coverage, and the next phase of the Mukhya Mantrir Atmonirbhor Asom Abhijan.
Mutual Transfer Portal for Employees
The government will launch a mutual transfer portal on January 1, 2025, allowing employees to apply for transfers within the same rank. The portal will remain open until February 28, 2025, giving interested employees ample time to submit their applications.
In cases of mutual transfer, two employees of the same rank need to apply together through the portal. Their applications will undergo verification, and once approved, the administration will take their consent online before finalizing the transfer.
Enhanced Insurance Coverage for Employees
The Assam Cabinet has approved a new insurance scheme to provide additional benefits for government employees in case of accidental deaths or injuries while on duty. Key features of the scheme include:
- Natural death: Kin of the deceased will receive an additional insurance benefit of ₹5–10 lakh.
- Accidental death while on duty: Families will receive ₹1 crore in compensation.
- Permanent disability: Employees will be eligible for a compensation of ₹70 lakh.
To implement this scheme, the government will sign Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with banks such as State Bank of India (SBI) and Union Bank of India on January 1, 2025.
Mukhya Mantrir Atmonirbhor Asom Abhijan
The next phase of the Mukhya Mantrir Atmonirbhor Asom Abhijan will also begin on January 1, 2025. This initiative aims to promote self-reliance and entrepreneurship among Assam’s youth. Beneficiaries under the program will receive financial assistance:
- ₹5 lakh for those pursuing professional courses.
- ₹2 lakh for those in non-professional courses.
Road Safety Awareness Campaign
Expressing concern over road accidents in the state, the Chief Minister urged the public to exercise caution during the holiday season, particularly from December-end to January 15, a period when road fatalities peak in Assam.
Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the importance of avoiding drunk driving, especially on New Year’s Eve. On average, 3,000 people lose their lives in road accidents in Assam every year, but efforts by the government have reduced fatalities by 15% this year. “We need public cooperation to further reduce these numbers,” he said.
The Assam Government’s new initiatives reflect its commitment to improving employee welfare and fostering entrepreneurship while addressing pressing issues like road safety.
