Are Banks forcing Officers not to participate in Strike on 27th January?
The All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC) has forwarded a complaint issued by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) to the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), raising concerns over possible unfair labour practices by banks ahead of the proposed nationwide bank strike on 27 January 2026.
The strike notice was issued by UFBU on 8 January 2026. UFBU has expressed strong apprehension that some banks may try to prevent officers from participating in the strike by issuing intimidating or restrictive communications. According to the unions, such actions are mainly targeted at officers in SMGS-IV and SMGS-V ranks.
AIBOC stated that the issue of unfair labour practices was earlier discussed during a conciliation meeting held on 21 March 2025 before the Chief Labour Commissioner in Delhi. During that meeting, it was advised that a formal complaint should be filed under Section 25(T) of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 for proper examination and action.
Now, UFBU has now formally approached the labour authorities. UFBU has urged authorities to issue directions to the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and banks to stop such unlawful practices, withdraw any threatening letters already issued, and ensure that no officer is discriminated against for participating in collective union activities.
AIBOC has asked all its affiliated unions and state units to remain alert. If any threatening or restrictive communication is received from bank management, officers have been advised to report it immediately.
