APUBEA Holds First Women’s Convention in Visakhapatnam, Elects Women Council

The Andhra Pradesh Union Bank Employees’ Association (APUBEA) successfully conducted its first Women’s Convention at Alluri Seetharamaraju Vignana Kendram, Visakhapatnam, on March 8, 2025. The event witnessed the participation of nearly 1,000 women employees from 17 regions across Andhra Pradesh.

The convention was inaugurated by Com. B.S. Rambabu, General Secretary, AP&TBFEF, and Secretary, AIBEA. Ms. Shalini Menon, General Manager, UBI Zonal Office, Visakhapatnam, attended as the Chief Guest. The event also saw the presence of senior banking and trade union leaders, including Com. N. Shankar, General Secretary, AIUBEA & Vice President, AIBEA; Com. Lalitha Joshi, Chairperson, AIBEA Women Council; and Com. Richa Gandhi, Convenor, AIBEA Women Council.

Additionally, for better administration, the convention elected Com. K. Mrudula as Convenor of Tirupati Zone, Com. M. Naga Pavani as Convenor of Vijayawada Zone, and Com. G. Karuna as Convenor of Visakhapatnam Zone. Deputy Regional Secretaries were also nominated as Assistant Women Convenors.

The Women’s Council aims to promote workplace safety and awareness regarding the POSH Act 2013 (Prevention of Sexual Harassment), ensure hygienic washrooms for women in every branch, and support inclusive growth in the banking sector. The council also seeks to empower women employees by helping them balance professional and personal life effectively.

V. Udaya Kumar, General Secretary of APUBEA, expressed confidence that the Women’s Council will play a crucial role in advancing the interests of women employees in the banking sector.
