All India Overseas Bank Employees Union announces Strike on 1st and 2nd December 2025

UFBU has written a letter to the MD&CEO of Indian Overseas Bank – Shri Ajay Kumar Srivastava. All India Overseas Bank Employees Union is proposing to observe agitational programmes and an All India Strike in Indian Overseas Bank on 1st and 2nd December, 2025. The main reason for the strike is non-fulfillment of demand for adequate recruitment of clerical and sub-staff and various other genuine long-pending demands.

The business of the Indian Overseas Bank increased 1.5 Lakh crore (2017-2024), but award staff (clerical and sub-staff) decreased by approximately 4000. Actually, the staff should have increased, but instead of an increase, there is a huge decrease in staff, which is adversely impacting other staff.

UFBU said that the demand of the Union for adequate recruitment of clerical and sub-staff is most valid and an urgent requirement since there is an acute shortage of staff in most of the branches, which, on the one hand, has increased the work pressure on the employees and, on the other hand, has adversely impacted effective customer services.

The number of clerical and substaff has been reduced over recent years in the Bank. The latest figures are given below 👇

As onNo. of Clerical StaffNo. of Substaff
31-3-201711,2172,188
31-3-201810,2842,061
31-3-20199,5202,054
31-3-20208,8402,425
31-3-20218,3522,282
31-3-20227,9071,679
31-3-20237,6781,878
31-3-20247,4231,699

It is pertinent to point out that the total business of the Bank has gone up from Rs. 3.50 lakh crores in 2017 to Rs. 5 lakh crores in 2024. But it has been observed that the indents placed by the Bank to the IBPS in recent years have been extremely inadequate, which does not cover even the normal vacancies on account of retirements, deaths, and promotion to higher cadre.

Similarly, there has been no recruitment of substaff, security staff, etc. in the Bank in the last few years, and on account of this, many of the branches do not have even one single substaff. Hence, the demand of the Union for adequate recruitment of clerical and substaff is most genuine and valid.

UFBU said: From the United Forum of Bank Unions representing bank employees and officers of all the Banks, we wish to urge you to effectively intervene in the matter and to find an amicable and mutually acceptable resolution to these important demands. We further wish to convey to the management that the United Forum of Bank Unions extends its full support to the agitational programmes of the Union and would also express its solidarity through fraternal programmes if the issues are not considered and resolved amicably.
