Punjab National Bank Management has filed a complaint against Shri Krishna Kumar, General Secretary of the All India Punjab National Bank Officers’ Federation (AIPNBOF), for participating in the strike, which could lead to imprisonment for up to six months. AIPNBOF, affiliated with the All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBOA), had given a formal notice of a one-day strike on October 9, 2025. The federation’s primary demand is the immediate declaration of all Saturdays as holidays for the banking industry under the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act.

In a remarkable show of determination, he has said that he is ready to go to jail if it helps improve the lives of bank officers. His statement came after a conciliation meeting held at the Chief Labour Commissioner’s (CLC) office in Delhi between AIPNBOF and the management of Punjab National Bank (PNB).

Why Bank has filed complaint against Shri Krishna Kumar?

The bank management has complained that AIPNBOF went on strike while the conciliation process was still underway. However, AIPNBOF has clarified that neither the government nor the management showed any willingness to discuss or consider their demands, and therefore, from the federation’s point of view, no active conciliation process was taking place at that time.

The meeting discussed several long-pending demands that led to the two-day strike on October 9 and 10, 2025. The key issues include five-day week banking, better medical facilities, and improved service conditions for bank officers. Krishna Kumar mentioned that no representative from the Government of India attended the meeting. The next meeting has been scheduled for December 8, 2025, to continue the discussions and find a solution.

Krishna Kumar also shared that the management has filed a complaint against the union members for participating in the strike, which could lead to imprisonment for up to six months. Showing no fear, he said,

“I will be more than happy to go to jail for making officers’ life a bit better.”
