UCO Bank Kanpur Employees sent to Jail for doing wrong remittance to Currency Chest

In a bank fraud case involving UCO Bank, the special judge, CBI cases, Lucknow, delivered sentences to the accused individuals. KK Mehta, the former assistant manager of UCO Bank’s Halsey Road branch in Kanpur, was sentenced to five years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹1.6 lakh. Additionally, Sunil Kumar Agarwal received a three-year sentence of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹20,000.

The CBI initiated the case against the officers and staff of UCO Bank’s Halsey Road branch in Kanpur on September 28, 2005. The allegations against the accused stated that between April 2003 and April 2005, they misappropriated an amount of ₹1.58 crore by falsely showing remittances to UCO Bank’s Armapur currency chest branch in Kanpur. The CBI filed a charge sheet on March 30, and after a fair trial, both Mehta and Agarwal were found guilty and sentenced accordingly.
