BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money)

  • BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) is a Mobile App developed by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), based on Unified Payment Interface (UPI), launched by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi to facilitate e-payments directly through bank.
  • It was launched as part of the 2016 Indian banknote demonetisation and Cashless transaction drive, at a Digi Dhan programme at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on December 30, 2016.
  • It has been named after Bhim Rao AmbedkarĀ since this app will help all the depressed classes of societies and an honour for Dr.Babasaaheb Ambedkar.
  • BHIM also has options to transfer via IFSC and MMID as well for non-UPI banks.

This UPI app supports all Indian banks which are live on UPI platform. UPI is built over the IMPS infrastructure and allows you to instantly transfer money between any two parties bank accounts.

  • It can be used on all mobile devices, be it a smartphone or a feature phone with internet connection.
  • BHIM allow users send or receive money to other UPI payment addresses or Scanning QR (Quick response) code or Account Number with IFSC code code or MMID (Mobile Money Identifier) Code to users who donā€™t have a UPI-based bank account.
  • BHIM allows users to check current balance in their bank accounts.
  • BHIM allows users to choose different bank account for conducting transactions. At a time, only one bank account can be active.
  • Users can create their own QR (Quick Response) code for a fixed amount of money, which is helpful in Merchant – Seller – Buyer transaction.
  • Apart from the primary payment address <mobile-number>@upi, users can create customized secondary payment address <desired-name>@upi (subject to availability).
