Lucknow Police are under investigation after being accused of stealing gold recovered from a bank locker. The SWAT team, which was responsible for recovering the stolen items, is at the center of the controversy after 6 kg of gold, out of 12 kg, went missing. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) East has disbanded the entire team and put all members under investigation. However, questions are still being raised about the involvement of higher-ranking officers.

The Robbery and Recovery

On December 21, 2024, a gang of criminals broke into Indian Overseas Bank in Lucknow after months of planning. Posing as workers seeking a painting contract, the miscreants cut a hole in the back wall of the bank to enter. They targeted 42 lockers, looting jewelry and cash worth crores of rupees. After the robbery, the police acted quickly and caught the accused in an encounter.

The Chinhat Police and SWAT team from the East Zone claimed they had recovered a large portion of the stolen loot. However, when bank employees checked the recovered goods, they noticed that 6 kg of gold was missing. This led to complaints from the victims, who suspected the police were involved in the theft.

The Investigation and Allegations of Police Involvement

As the investigation unfolded, it was discovered that some members of the SWAT team may have taken the missing gold. The disappearance occurred after the police had recovered the stolen items. Some SWAT team members raised concerns about the actions of senior police officials, suggesting they may have been aware of the theft.

Mastermind Vipin, arrested by the police, revealed he had rented a house in Takrohi to plan the robbery. He also admitted to conducting surveillance of the bank for three months. During the police raid, it was found that the gold and silver had been hidden in various locations in Lucknow and Sitapur. However, when the police recovered the loot, some of the gold was missing. This has led to suspicions that police officers themselves might be involved in the theft.

Suspicion Surrounding SWAT Team’s Actions

After the robbery, the SWAT team reportedly went to Ghazipur to recover the stolen goods. However, their actions became suspicious when they were sent on leave shortly after the recovery. Police sources claim the officers were missing for several days, and by the time they returned, senior officials had already taken action, making it difficult to trace the missing gold.

When the SWAT team members were asked to give statements, many of them did not show up. Some members provided written statements, claiming they were being falsely implicated and that they were merely carrying out the orders of senior officials. The officers questioned why they were being blamed for a crime that was under the supervision of higher authorities.

Suspension of Police Officers

As a result of the investigation, 12 members of the SWAT team have been suspended. Police sources indicate that some officers from the Chinhat Police station were also involved in the disappearance of the gold. After the robbery, the gold was reportedly stored at the police station, and some of it went missing under suspicious circumstances. Senior officials were allegedly aware of the situation but did not take action until now.

Victims Waiting for Justice

The robbery affected the savings of 40 families, who are now left without their life’s earnings. The victims, who had stored their valuables in the bank lockers, are now unable to trust the police. The allegations of police corruption and negligence have raised serious concerns about the credibility of the Lucknow Police force. The key question remains: how will the missing gold be recovered?

Official Statements

In response to the investigation, ADCP East Pankaj Kumar Singh stated that the investigation is ongoing and that action will be taken against those found responsible. DCP East Shashank Singh assured that the report has been sent to higher authorities, and that appropriate action will be taken if any officers are found guilty.

Someone will ask whether the cat was pet or wild.
How much milk was given to the cat for monitoring?
Was there cream in the milk or was it plain milk etc.
