Recently, Punjab National Bank issued an order to create a WhatsApp group for Subordinate staff (clerks and sub-staff). This has sparked protests and anger amongst the subordinate staff. The staff is protesting against this order saying WhatsApp is not an official medium for communication. The order from PNB asked all Circle Offices to form a WhatsApp group at the CO level of all subordinate staff posted in the Circle. The groups shall consist of one HR Officer and a Digital Marketing Officer as members of the group who will circulate podcasts and any other learning material to enhance the knowledge of subordinate staff, daily. Now We Bankers Association has filed a complaint against Punjab National Bank.

Now, The Ministry of Labour & Employment has taken action on a complaint against Punjab National Bank (PNB) management. The complaint was filed by Shri Kamlesh Chaturvedi, National Convener of the United Forum of We Bankers.
Shri Chaturvedi has alleged that PNB management broke an agreement made on February 17, 2023, in front of the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (CLC) in Kanpur. He claims that the bank has changed the service conditions of workers, violating existing rules and settlements.
The Office of the Chief Labour Commissioner has sent a letter to the Deputy CLC in Kanpur, asking them to look into the matter and take necessary action. The complaint was originally sent via email on February 10, 2025, and was later forwarded by the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) to concerned officials.
