Dehradun: A threatening email was received at several State Bank of India (SBI) branches in Mussoorie on Monday morning. The email stated that if all bank loans of Mussoorie residents were not waived, then a big robbery would be executed in SBI and all cash and jewellery will be looted from SBI branches.
According to SBI Kulri (कुलड़ी) Branch Manager Sachin Shah, the email was received around 11 a.m. on Monday. Similar emails were also received at the SBI GNFC, Landour Cantt, and LBSN branches. The message stated that all bank loans in Mussoorie be waived off immediately otherwise branches would be looted and put on Fire.
Shockingly, the email also mentioned the names of BJP Mussoorie Mandal President Rajat Agarwal, Mussoorie Traders Association General Secretary Jagjit Kukreja, and former BJP Mandal President Mohan Petwal. The sender even threatened to bring goons from Sahaspur to carry out the attack.
Those whose names were mentioned — Rajat Agarwal, Jagjit Kukreja, and others — have strongly denied any involvement. They said the email was fake and appears to be an attempt to create panic and disturb the peace in the city. They have also written to the police, demanding strict action against the person responsible.
City Police Inspector Devendra Singh Chauhan confirmed that a complaint has been received and an investigation has been launched. “Cyber assistance will be sought to trace the sender of the email. A detailed and serious investigation will be conducted,” he said.
This is not the first time, a Bank has received threat email. In April, Punjab National Bank branch in Indore had received a bomb threat through an email. In the email, it was mentioned that a blast would take place in the bank at 2 PM and that the explosion would be triggered remotely.
In December 2023, the regulator of Banks – Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and two major private banks, HDFC and ICICI, received threatening emails claiming planted bombs at 11 locations across the city.
