A Lufthansa flight bound for Bangkok was forced to make an unscheduled landing at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport this afternoon due to a heated altercation between a couple on board. The incident unfolded mid-air during the flight from Munich to Bangkok, with the couple’s argument escalating into a loud and disruptive confrontation.

Faced with the unruly passengers, Lufthansa initially sought permission to land in Pakistan, but upon denial, opted for an emergency landing in Delhi. “The decision to divert to Delhi was taken after cabin crew reported disruptive behavior on board, specifically a dispute between a husband and wife,” sources told ANI news agency.

The German man involved in the altercation was offloaded at Delhi and handed over to airport security personnel. He has since issued an apology for his conduct.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is currently deliberating whether to accept the man’s apology and allow his return to Germany or hand him over to Indian law enforcement authorities.

“The exact cause of the fight between the couple remains unclear, but the incident escalated to a point where the flight had to be diverted,” an aviation security official at Delhi airport told ANI.

Lufthansa is coordinating with the German Embassy regarding the incident and has indicated its readiness to resume the flight to Bangkok once the tires have cooled down.
