A shocking case of financial fraud has come to light in Bareilly, where a suspended teacher was found to have taken loans worth ₹3 crore from multiple banks using fake documents. The accused, Vandana Verma, a former lecturer at MB Inter College, was arrested by the police and has been sent to judicial custody.
Fraud Uncovered After Husband’s Complaint
The matter came to light after Vandana’s husband, Amit Kumar, filed a complaint with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). He accused his wife of fraud and financial deception.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Vandana Verma had created two PAN cards and two Aadhaar cards, each with different dates of birth. Using these fake identities, she managed to secure loans from several banks, including:
- Bank of Baroda – Vikas Bhawan and Purana Shahar branches
- Union Bank of India – Premnagar branch
- State Bank of India – Kumaon Nagar and Gadarpur (Uttarakhand) branches
She used forged documents by altering her original appointment letter, repeatedly changing her identity to deceive the banking system.
Cheating Job Seekers with Fake Appointment Letters
Apart from bank fraud, Vandana Verma was also involved in cheating job seekers. She, along with her accomplices, created fake appointment letters and lured people by promising them teaching jobs. Many individuals lost lakhs of rupees in this scam.
Luxury Lifestyle Funded by Fraud
According to her husband’s allegations, Vandana led a lavish lifestyle using the fraudulently obtained loan money. She traveled extensively within India and abroad, staying in luxury hotels and using expensive facilities, all without obtaining any official permission from the education department.
Suspension and Delayed Legal Action
A complaint had already been filed against Vandana Verma with the District School Inspector’s office, leading to a departmental inquiry. She was found guilty and suspended from her post on October 23, 2024. However, no legal action was taken at that time, allowing her fraudulent activities to continue.
Police Investigation and Further Arrests Expected
Premnagar Police Station in-charge Ashutosh Raghuvanshi confirmed that Vandana Verma has been arrested and sent to jail. The police are now investigating other individuals who might be involved in the scam. Searches are being conducted, and further arrests are expected soon.
