The Chhattisgarh government has launched the Mahatari Vandana scheme, wherein a monthly amount of Rs 1000 will be deposited into the accounts of women. Consequently, it is mandatory for women to complete the KYC process in their bank accounts to get benefit from this scheme. To complete the KYC process, the women are rushing to their banks. Due to high rush, banks have requested customers to visit branch following token system so that their work could be done smoothly.
It is reported that women are waiting outside SBI since 2 AM at night. While the bank’s opening time is at 10 AM, women are queuing up outside the bank late at night. After filling out forms for the Mahatari Vandana scheme, women are waiting outside banks from 2 AM to link their accounts with Aadhar and complete the KYC process. It has been reported that a crowd of women is gathering at the Pendrarod branch of State Bank in Goureela Pendravahi district for KYC procedures.
The bank issues tokens for the KYC process based on a “first-come, first-served” basis, resulting in women arriving at banks late at night. Some women travel long distances alone or with their families to reach the bank. It has been reported that women have to stand outside bank in cold environment which really causes a lot of inconvenience to them.
But there is another aspect of this also. Bank branch has limited staff and how will they handle sudden increase in work. It takes time to do KYC of customers and KYC is very important as per RBI guidelines. Recently, RBI has banned Paytm payments Bank due violation in KYC norms. Government has launched this new scheme without enhancing the man power at banks. Similar condition was observed in Madhya Pradesh where women assembled outside banks for KYC to receive Rs.1000 amount in their bank accounts. So tell us in comment section whose fault this is – customer’s fault, banker’s fault, bank management’s fault or government’s fault
Bankers are already working high stress and such schemes add a huge amount of extra pressure on bankers. This is very important for government and bank management to resolve the staff shortage in banks.
Why not facility of updating KYC is given online as well? RBI should issue directions to the banks. Time limit of updating KYC should also be enhanced to 10 years atleast.
Govt he line ki zimedar h chahe wo notebandi ho ya koi scheme
