The State Bank of India (SBI), India’s largest bank, has achieved a remarkable milestone by making it to the global list of the top 100 most profitable companies. This is a huge achievement, nearly a decade after its merger with five associate banks, which helped SBI become one of the world’s top 50 banks by assets.

For the financial year 2024-2025 (FY25), SBI reported a net profit of $9.2 billion (₹77,561 crore), according to data from Bloomberg. With this profit, SBI has now joined the ranks of some of the world’s most profitable companies like Alphabet (Google’s parent), Apple, NVIDIA, and JPMorgan Chase.

Rankings

This is a major achievement for SBI as it becomes the third Indian company to enter the top 100 most profitable companies in the world. Earlier, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) made it to the list in 2009, and Reliance Industries did the same in 2021.

SBI’s rise in the global rankings is largely due to its strong financial performance, with a 31% compound annual growth (CAGR) in net profit over the last five years. This shows how the bank’s consistent growth strategy has paid off.
