Rajasthan Police have uncovered a big cyber fraud racket in Alwar. The gang was selling “mule accounts” to cybercriminals. These accounts were used to launder scam money across India. According to a PTI report, six people were arrested on Sunday. Among them were four employees of Axis Bank. With this, the total arrests in the case have reached 16, said Alwar SP Sudheer Choudhary.
Mule accounts act as temporary channels to move stolen money. This makes it very hard to trace the real fraudsters. With the help of bank insiders, cybercriminals could easily run scams on a large scale.
During raids, police seized 26 ATM cards, 33 mobile phones, 34 SIM cards, ₹2.5 lakh in cash, Cheque books, passbooks, and two cars.
Police said the gang sold hundreds of current and corporate accounts to fraudsters through WhatsApp and Telegram. These accounts were opened with fake documents. Later, they were linked with new phone numbers and APK files, giving cybercriminals direct access to internet banking. These accounts were used for money laundering from online betting, gaming scams, and crypto transactions.
Arrested Individuals
The arrested people include:
- Varun Patwa (40), from Udaipur, now living in Gurugram
- Satish Kumar Jat (35), from Hisar, Haryana
The Axis Bank employees arrested are:
- Sahil Agarwal (33)
- Gulshan Punjabi (33)
- Asu Sharma (23)
- Anchal Jat (24)
Police said these bank employees opened fake current accounts using forged papers. They handed these accounts to middlemen, who sold them to cybercriminals. Investigators said this was a large operation. Over ₹500 crore was routed through mule accounts. More than 4,000 complaints linked to these accounts are on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP). Frauds worth over ₹100 crore have been directly connected to this racket.
