PNB Bank Head Cashier Lost Rs.10 Lakh in Cyber Fraud

A shocking case of online banking fraud has come to light in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, where a Punjab National Bank (PNB) head cashier lost ₹10 lakh in a cyber scam. The victim, Sanjay Jain, has filed a complaint at the cyber police station, and an investigation is currently in progress.

How the Fraud Took Place

According to reports, Sanjay Jain, a resident of Chakki Bazaar, Kotwali Sadar, Hathras, is employed as the head cashier at PNB’s Sadabad Gate branch.

On January 9, in the evening, Sanjay went to a local doctor for medical treatment. While he was at the clinic, he suddenly received a One-Time Password (OTP) on his mobile phone, even though he hadn’t attempted any transaction. Within moments, he got three back-to-back SMS notifications informing him that ₹10 lakh had been deducted from his bank account.

The sudden loss of such a large amount shocked and distressed Sanjay. Without wasting any time, he immediately contacted the bank officials to report the fraudulent transaction.

Where Did the Money Go?

After speaking with the bank, it was revealed that the ₹10 lakh had been transferred to accounts in IDBI Bank and Bandhan Bank.

Despite quick action from the bank and thorough verification of the transaction details, the stolen amount could not be recovered. Seeing no other option, Sanjay filed an official complaint at the cyber police station, requesting an urgent investigation into the matter.

Police Begin Investigation

Based on the complaint, the cybercrime department has started investigating the case. Officers are looking into how the fraudsters gained access to the OTP and managed to transfer the money.
